Example Chapter Organization Documents (Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition)
The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) operates county-wide through a formalized chapter structure. The following documents govern the LACBC chapter model and provide operating structures for LACBC chapters.
Draft Regional Partnership Amendment to LACBC Bylaws (PDF, Dropbox) - this draft document shows how LACBC approached amending their bylaws to include the chapter model in their governance.
Exhibit A - LACBC Local Chapters (PDF, Dropbox) - This formal amendment to LACBC's bylaws articulates their chapter structure.
LACBC Model Chapter Bylaws (DOCX, Dropbox) - This is a basic template for chapter bylaws' "rules of governance." This document shows the minimum that must be included.
Santa Monica Spoke Rules of Governance (PDF, Dropbox) - Santa Monica Spoke is one of LACBC's largest local chapters. Their rules of governance are more robust than what is required. As a founding chapter, SM Spoke was already operating before LACBC adopted final chapter guidelines.
Local Working Group Handbook (Bike East Bay)
Bike East Bay represents two counties in the San Francisco Bay Area, encompassing over 50 cities and towns. They have both formal and informal relationships with smaller, more localized, special interest groups and volunteer associations that focus on bicycling issues. Most of those "local working groups" are city-specific, like Walk Oakland Bike Oakland, Albany Strollers and Rollers, and Bike Walnut Creek. But others, like the Original Scraper Bike Team and Red Bike and Green, are harder to categorize. Bike East Bay encourages the growth of these groups and brings all of them together in order to advance region-wide priorities while being effective at the local level.
