Reliable data are essential for any viable movement. We compile available data on bicycling and walking in the United States, benchmark growth in the active transportation advocacy space, and create customized guides for state and local biking and walking advocacy organizations.
Benchmarking Report
In conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control, the Alliance publishes the biennial Benchmarking Report to collect and analyze data on bicycling and walking in all 50 states, the 51 largest U.S. cities, and a select number of midsized cities. The Report combines original research with over 20 government data sources to report data on bicycling and walking levels and demographics, safety, funding, policies, infrastructure, education, public health indicators, and economic impacts. It's an essential go-to resource for public officials, advocates, decisionmakers, and researchers.
As a supplement to the Benchmarking project, the Alliance annually surveys its own membership to gather data on the size, breadth, and growth of the biking and walking advocacy movement. Members of the Alliance for Biking & Walking enjoy the annual Measuring the Movement report, a short trends report that showcases trends and progress in active transportation advocacy.
The 2014 Benchmarking Report was released on April 16, 2014. Learn more about the Benchmarking Report »
