The Bicycle Transportation Alliance (soon to be The Street Trust) is a non-profit membership organization working to promote safe and accessible bicycling, walking and transit. Since 1990, the BTA has worked in partnership with citizens, businesses, community groups, government agencies, and elected officials to create communities where people can meet their daily transportation needs through biking, walking and taking transit. The organization is in transition to its expanded mission and new name to take effect 1/1/2017.

 

Executive Summary:

The BTA is seeking an energetic and effective individual who will lead the organization’s marketing, communications and public relations. The position is responsible for developing and executing strong, robust campaigns in collaboration with all our advocacy, education, and development departments. To be successful, these campaigns will also engage business, government, and media partners. Job Responsibilities:

Working closely with the BTA’s management team including our Executive Director, Campaign Director and Public Policy Director the position's responsibilities include:

1.     Drive communication, marketing strategies and public relations, including writing and producing campaigns, blog posts, email, press releases, social media, and website content.

2.     Manage the organization’s brand and work with staff and board on implementing brand strategy.

3.     Develop and ensure consistency of the BTA's voice internally and externally.

4.     Proactively cultivate relationships with the media, pitch stories, and respond to events.

5.     Utilize online communication tools to provide updates via blog posts, web pages, online social networks, and broadcast email services

6.     Recruit and manage resources to expand our communications capacity including working with paid contractors, pro bono agencies, interns, and volunteers

7.     Provide professional writing and copyediting both directly or through additional resources.

8.     Serve as a public face of the organization at speaking engagements and in the media.



Core Accountabilities


Communications

Use effective communications to powerfully and efficiently help build the the organization and help us meet our strategicgoals. Translate our vision, mission and strategic plan for targeted constituents and stakeholders with the goal of developing campaigns that move the public to support our work and to “win”. Use public relations skills to represent the BTA (The Street Trust) with the media, the public, policy makers, current members, and potential members.


Marketing and Brand Implementation

Strategically lead the BTA through a brand transition and mission expansion to establish a clear and effective voice and brand for the Street Trust.


Engage staff, board, and members to build and implement strong messaging, voice, and visual guidelines for The Street Trust.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with diverse community populations and are expected to strengthen such capacity if hired.



Job Skills Required:

      Strategic experience building and successfully implementing communications, marketing, PR, and advocacy campaigns.

      Strong public speaking skills.

      Ability to interact with a diverse selection of constituents and partners.

      Must have good people, partnering, and collaboration skills.

      Experience with Adobe design suite.

      Knowledge and proficiency with Salesforce is preferred.

      Very high attention to detail, including accuracy and efficiency.

      Excellent time management skills, including ability to balance multiple (and sometimes competing) priorities. Ability to meet multiple deadlines.

      Strong analytical skills.

      Good verbal and written communication.

      Self-starter with ability to improve systems.

      Integrity, honesty, professionalism and accountability are fundamental to the position.



Requisite Experience:

      Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations.

      2+ years work experience in development, marketing, public relations, or communications (relevant volunteer experience can qualify)

      Ability to use technology to achieve goals, including experience with complex CRM databases; social marketing sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; and other tools to engage various demographic populations.

      Knowledge of Macintosh OS, Google Apps, and Microsoft Office suite is strongly desired.

      Knowledge and experience with WordPress and MailChimp

      Experience in membership-based organizations and/or campaigns preferred.
