SUMMITS AHOY
These days, more and more biking and walking advocates across the continent – especially organizations that work on the state level – hold summits to bring citizens and government officials together to advance active transportation. Biking and walking summits are powerful tools: they allow government officials to witness first-hand the enormous popular support behind active transportation issues, they bring activists together to advance the local movement, and they facilitate knowledge-sharing and learning to infuse biking and walking advocacy with great new ideas.
California Walks will hold the Best Foot Forward Summit on November 8 - 9. The Summit will convene a broad base of walk, health, equity, advocates, and sustainability organizations to create a shared action agenda to advance walking throughout the state.
The Wisconsin Bicycle Federation has announced their 2014 Summit schedule. The theme is "I Bike, I Vote" – a fitting slogan for a gathering just three weeks before elections! Sessions are divided into three tracks: getting on your bike, staying on your bike, and getting Wisconsin biking.
The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition held their fourth annual Bike Summit last week. The Summit focused on how bikes help to boost business. Representatives from Google, LinkedIn, and Stanford University discussed why their organizations promote bicycling among their employees and students. Mark Fenton was on hand to share how changes in policies and designs can help remedy our nation's inactivity crisis. Mia Kohout gave a virtual tour of bicycle facilities from around the continent.

New centerlines have been popping up on Calgary pathways.
In Wisconsin, Milwaukee added buffered bike lanes and Wauwatosa added bike boxes.

Oregon's Bicycle Transportation Alliance supports Measure 88, a bill to create a Driver Card that could serve as proof of residence in absence of proof of legal residence.
