Equity Intersection

Dave Snyder, executive director of the California Bicycle Coalition shared his thoughts on the upcoming California Bicycle Summit theme: Equity in Motion. "We will have some difficult conversations. We will be challenged. We will make mistakes. I’ve made my share, unfortunately. I hate it when I 'say the wrong thing' because it portrays me incorrectly and unfairly or worse, reveals some ignorance or bigotry that I haven’t recognized yet. So I’ve learned to listen more than talk, and to speak up thoughtfully. I encourage my white male colleagues to do the same."

The Active Transportation Alliance in Chicago shared its thoughts on the growing alliance between transportation and public health, highlighting that "equity concerns impact people’s health and transportation realities."

Bike Pittsburgh showcased a diverse photo essay of local bicyclists sharing why they ride, including Monica Garrison, founder of Black Girls Do Bike.

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition geared up for a one-year anniversary celebration of its Women Bike SF program, which will feature Mary Kay Chin, a Women Bike SF member and "a co-founder of the San Francisco Yellow Bike Project, a grassroots, pop-up, do-it-yourself community-building machine that empowers people who might not be able to afford a bike otherwise to rebuild one that just needs a little love.

Bike Cleveland applauded "progress towards the city’s first truly protected bike lane" on Lorain Avenue.
