Who are the mysterious folks who will decide the winners of Advocate of the Year, Advocacy Organization of the Year, Winning Campaign of the Year, Business Advocate of the Year, and the Susie Stephens Joyful Enthusiasm Award?
Great question. In addition to Alliance staff, these are the esteemed members of the 2014 Advocacy Awards judges panel.
- Brent Buice, executive director of Georgia Bikes; co-recipient of 2013 Winning Campaign of the Year for the Georgia DOT’s Complete Streets policy
- Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists; prolific bike advocate for life
- Darren Flusche, policy director at the League of American Bicyclists; named APBP's 2013 Professional of the Year
- David Howard, executive editor at Bicycling Magazine; master wordsmith and omniscient bicycle industry reporter
- Mia Kohout, CEO & editor-in-chief, Momentum Magazine; content creator and bicycle lifestyle goddess
- Melody Moody, executive director of Bike Walk Mississippi, the current reigning Alliance Advocacy Organization of the Year; named one of 14 bike advocacy innovators by Bicycling Magazine
- Renee Rivera, executive director of the East Bay Bicycle Coalition; reigning Susie Stephens Joyful Enthusiasm winner
- Rebecca Serna, executive director of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, reigning Alliance Advocate of the Year
- Caroline Samponaro, senior director of campaigns & organizing at Transportation Alternatives, co-recipient of the 2013 Innovation Award for Local Spokes
- Carolyn Szczepanski, director of communications and Women Bike for the League of American Bicyclists, named one of 14 bike advocacy innovators by Bicycling Magazine
No use lobbying, nominees – the judges have already cast their votes. Alliance staff are tallying the votes and getting ready to send the winners’ names off to Tucson community bike shop Bicas for engraving the gorgeous trophies. (They’re homemade from recycled bike parts!)
